Football Association of Malawi (Fam) is likely to shift the Charity Shield from this weekend to next weekend so as to accommodate Malawi under-20 national football team\u2019s game against Swaziland on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Fam has made the U-turn when four teams earmarked for the Charity Shield have complained over the association\u2019s failure to confirm the dates of the tournament, that is designed to kick-start the 2018 season.<\/p>\n
If shifted to the weekend of April 7, the Charity Shield will clash with Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for Mangochi District on the same day.<\/p>\n
The Charity Shield is expected to attract TNM Super League champions, Be Forward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets, Kamuzu Barracks and Silver Strikers who are Carlsberg, Fisd Challenge and Airtel Top 8 cups kings respectively.<\/p>\n
Fam acting Competitions Manager, Casper Jangale, confirmed the possibility of shifting the Charity Shield, saying the competitions department wants to make the event meaningful by raising enough funds for charity.<\/p>\n
He insisted that the Charity Shield would not be overshadowed by the Sulom AGM, saying each team sends two officials only to such a meeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will issue a statement but the tournament will be shifted to next week. We are talking of changing the format from two to four teams, so this needs enough time to make the event big,\u201d Jangale said.<\/p>\n
Silver Strikers General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, said they were yet to be informed about the shift in the Charity Shield\u2019s calendar.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe attended a planning meeting to discuss various things, including how to handle tickets and gate charges as well as the format and how best to generate more revenue from the event. We are in the dark that the Charity Shield has been shifted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Bullets Team Manager, James Chilapondwa, said they want Fam to communicate earlier on the schedule of the Charity Shield.<\/p>\n
