{"id":63012,"date":"2018-03-28T06:04:17","date_gmt":"2018-03-28T04:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=63012"},"modified":"2018-03-28T06:04:18","modified_gmt":"2018-03-28T04:04:18","slug":"mzuzu-i-am-coming-for-you-says-flora-suya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/03\/28\/mzuzu-i-am-coming-for-you-says-flora-suya\/","title":{"rendered":"Mzuzu I am coming for you, says Flora Suya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Renowned actress and filmmaker Flora Suya said yesterday that the Northern Region will not be sidelined in the premiere of her second film titled <em>Dear Pen Pal. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Northern Region has now and again complained about being sidelined when it comes to different activities including movie premieres with the target being only the Southern and Central regions.<\/p>\n<p>But Suya said the Northern Region has not been forgotten and that she was geared to premiere <em>Dear Pen Pal <\/em>in Mzuzu in April after Lilongwe and Blantyre screenings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not want to take it to Mzuzu at first but with the pressure I received, I thought of doing it. I will premiere <em>Dear Pen Pal <\/em>end April but will announce the dates in due course,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Suya said, at first, she only thought of sending DVDs of the film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMzuzu I am coming for you and so get ready and just watch the space for the dates and venue,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Moving on to the premieres in Lilongwe and Blantyre, Suya said she was ready.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are four shows, two in Lilongwe and two in Blantyre. I have afternoon and night screenings and I did this deliberately to give a chance to everyone to sample the film,\u201d the actress said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Dear Pen Pal <\/em>premieres at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe on Friday night and then Saturday afternoon at the same venue.<\/p>\n<p>The film will then premiere at The Underground formerly M-Theatres in Blantyre on Saturday night before another screening on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The first event in Lilongwe will cost people K10,000 for VIP and K6,000 regular ticket while in the afternoon show VIP will cost K6,000 and K3,000 regular ticket.<\/p>\n<p>At The Underground, VIP will cost K7,000 with K4,000 regular whereas in the afternoon, the entry fee is K6,000 VIP and K3,000 regular ticket.<\/p>\n<p>Suya said she was happy to bring her second movie describing her journey as a roller-coaster.<\/p>\n<p>Having starred in Shemu Joyah\u2019s films &#8211; <em>Seasons of a Life <\/em>and <em>The Last Fishing Boat, <\/em>Suya said she learnt a lot hence taking a huge step to start making her own films.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking on my first film <em>My Mother\u2019s Story, <\/em>I didn\u2019t know how people would receive it but I got positive feedback and this motivated me to come out with <em>Dear Pen Pal,<\/em>\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She said <em>Dear Pen Pal <\/em>is a fiction story that she created following her observations on relationships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been observing relationships and sometimes you have this idea of why do some people end up in wrong partnerships. So this is the story in <em>Dear Pen Pal,<\/em>\u201d Suya said.<\/p>\n<p>Suya is also the brains behind a drama series on Times Television titled <em>Spouses and Workmates. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>She said she was targeting the international market with the film.<\/p>\n<p>The premiere of her movie also comes barely a week after fellow actress and award-winning filmmaker Joyce Mhango Chavula premiered <em>Nyasaland. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs women, we do not want to lag behind; we have learnt and now we are putting this into practice and I hope more women will come out to propel the film industry,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She said there was talent in the country but was quick to call upon players in the industry to work together and strive for the best if they are to excel and win the hearts of people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want to ask people to support us; we do all this for them. Again, the corporate world should help us, we are not asking for handouts, but they should try us having assisted in other fields,\u201d Suya said.<\/p>\n<p>Tapiwa Gwaza, whose debut movie was <em>Seasons of a Life <\/em>starring alongside Suya and also starred in <em>My Mother\u2019s Story, <\/em>said it was an honour for her to be part of the cast describing Suya as a hard worker and go-getter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActing in Malawi is not easy and so to be part of the cast, I am honoured. In the play, I am playing a married woman, who is very difficult and doesn\u2019t know what she wants.
