{"id":62941,"date":"2018-03-27T06:32:14","date_gmt":"2018-03-27T04:32:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=62941"},"modified":"2018-03-27T06:32:14","modified_gmt":"2018-03-27T04:32:14","slug":"holiday-over-for-blacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/03\/27\/holiday-over-for-blacks\/","title":{"rendered":"Holiday over for Blacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reggae group Black Missionaries said on Sunday that they are back to the stage as they prepare to release their <em>Kuimba 11 <\/em>album.<\/p>\n<p>Black Missionaries had three assignments last weekend, starting off at Ngom\u2019s Park in Liwonde on Friday, followed by a performance at Simbeko Motel in Nsanje on Saturday before the last show at Ozone Refreshment Centre in Machinjiri, Blantyre, on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The reggae group\u2019s performance at Ozone Refreshment Centre attracted a huge audience.<\/p>\n<p>The show started in the afternoon and went all the way into the night as Black Missionaries left it late. It was clear that the audience did not want to let them go.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur holiday was short. It\u2019s now time to start performing and today\u2019s show is just one of the many shows we have lined up,\u201d the group\u2019s lead vocalist, Anjiru Fumulani, said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the short holiday gave them time to work on the songs that are in their <em>Kuimba 11 <\/em>album which will be released later this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have made progress on <em>Kuimba 11 <\/em>but, for now, let people wait and we will announce the dates when we will drop some promotional songs,\u201d Anjiru said.<\/p>\n<p>He said, apart from live performances, this year will be full of action as their other family members\u2014 Anthony Makondetsa, Yanjanani Chumbu and Khonzie Masimbe\u2014 will be releasing albums.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a family, this is great and there is a proper plan. We will give each other space. We know that people are eager to listen to the new songs but we want to bring out something they will love,\u201d Anjiru said.<\/p>\n<p>He could not be drawn to say where they were recording the album.<\/p>\n<p>Of late, the group has been using free style to dish out some songs with fresh lyrics, including a song by Gas Machine Head, a group which was a force to reckon with in the past.<\/p>\n<p>The audience during the Ozone show demanded that they give them a taste of their new songs, but Anjiru said they were not ready to perform the songs.<\/p>\n<p>Anjiru also hailed Ozone Refreshment Centre for refurbishing the place.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, artists had difficulties performing at the stage, which was small\u2014 which is a thing of the past since the stage has been rebuilt and has enough space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOzone is a popular entertainment place in Blantyre. A lot of artists perform here and, as such, we would like to thank the owners for putting up a good stage; it\u2019s not only the stage but toilets as well,\u201d Anjiru said.<\/p>\n<p>He said they, as artists, long for venues that have proper infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Before Blacks took to the stage to entertain the audience with songs from all their <em>Kuimba <\/em>albums, Makondetsa, better known as Mr Cool, warmed the stage.<\/p>\n<p>Black Missionaries Manager, Ray Harawa, said recently that Makondetsa is set to launch an album next month.<\/p>\n<p>Before Black Missionaries took to the stage, there were performances from Chumbu and Masimbe, who disclosed that his album, titled <em>Utatu Woyera, <\/em>is ready.<\/p>\n<p>Masimbe has been performing with Black Missionaries for years and has more than four albums to his credit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reggae group Black Missionaries said on Sunday that they are back to the stage as they prepare to release their Kuimba 11 album.
