General Alliance Insurance has committed to continue bankrolling the squash championship which concluded on Sunday at Blantyre Sports Club.<\/p>\n
The insurers sponsored the eighth edition of the championship to the tune of K1 million.<\/p>\n
General Alliance Assistant Claims Manager, James Duncan, said they were happy to associate with the sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe watched fantastic squash. The players were outstanding and determined. We promise to come back with a bigger and better sponsorship package next year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Squash Malawi President, Matthews Mtumbuka, hailed General Alliance for supporting the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cEight years is not a joke. It shows that the company wants to develop the sport to greater heights,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mtumbuka encouraged youthful players to challenge veterans who are still dominating the main championship.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is about time that youthful players also caused upsets and claim the honour. The veterans should not be finding up-and-coming players their easy prey,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
During the three-day championship, Aubrey Taulo ended James Matewere\u2019s three-year dominance with a three straight victory.<\/p>\n
Taulo said he was excited to have finally stopped Matewere from cruising to a fourth successive title.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is tough but I conquered him because I was more prepared and determined,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Matewere said he let go of the championship because of complacency.<\/p>\n
\u201cI did not train adequately but that should not be an excuse. I just need to wake up and bounce back strongly net year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In the Plate Division, Alan Alidi beat Richard Kachepa 3-2 to settle for gold whereas Frank Maliko defeated Paticio Ndeule by three straight sets to win the C-section.<\/p>\n
