{"id":6270,"date":"2015-07-21T08:22:09","date_gmt":"2015-07-21T08:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=6270"},"modified":"2015-07-21T08:22:09","modified_gmt":"2015-07-21T08:22:09","slug":"thom-mkorongo-appointed-womens-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/07\/21\/thom-mkorongo-appointed-womens-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Thom  Mkorongo appointed women\u2019s coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>National Women\u2019s Football Committee\u2019s (NWFC\u2019s) search for a new coach for the women\u2019s national football team has ended after the committee settled for former Civo United coach, Thom Mkorongo, to help in resurrecting the national team that has been dormant for three years.<\/p>\n<p>NWFC chairperson, Severia Chalira, confirmed yesterday that the committee had accepted Football Association of Malawi (Fam) technical directors John Kaputa\u2019s recommendation to get Mkorongo as head coach.<\/p>\n<p>NWFC was scheduled to meet Kaputa at the weekend to finalise everything but the meeting was pushed forward to next weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, we discussed everything with the technical director over the phone. The technical director will submit the names of the members of the coaching panel to Fam\u2019s technical subcommittee next weekend. After that, the coaching panel will be officially announced,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Chalira added that Mkorongo, who underwent a Caf A Licence Coaching Course earlier this year, would be assisted by Andrew Chikhosi who is in charge of Central Region\u2019s women\u2019s football giants DD Sunshine.<\/p>\n<p>Blantyre Zero coach Maggie Chombo has been roped in as assistant coach and goalkeepers\u2019 trainer.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s women\u2019s football governing body is also yet to release the final squad to go into camp in preparation for a friendly match that has been scheduled for the weekend of 22-23 August.<\/p>\n<p>Chalira said her committee, through Fam, was courting Zimbabwe, and Tanzania for a friendly match.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe girls were supposed to go into camp next weekend but we have changed the programme because we are waiting for feedback from the three countries.
