{"id":62521,"date":"2018-03-19T12:29:20","date_gmt":"2018-03-19T10:29:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=62521"},"modified":"2018-03-19T12:29:21","modified_gmt":"2018-03-19T10:29:21","slug":"blantyre-water-board-trio-has-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/03\/19\/blantyre-water-board-trio-has-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Blantyre Water Board trio has case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>T<\/strong>hree Blantyre Water Board (BWB) officials implicated in the K150 million money laundering case have a case to answer, the Blantyre Senior Resident Magistrate Court has ruled.<\/p>\n<p>The three\u2014 former BWB corporate clients officer Brian Makote, Oscar Kapito and Paul Mang\u2019ani\u2014 are accused of creating a fake BWB welfare account which they are alleged to have used to siphon K150 million.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba said the State has made a preliminary case against the three calling them to defend themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Nyimba said the State showed that Makote was the one pushing for the encashment of a K20 million cheque from BWB Social Welfare Account at NedBank Limbe Branch while Kapito dropped a driver\u2019s licence bearing his face while running away from the banking hall when he realised that things had gone wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Christopher Katani welcomed the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Makote, Kapito and Mang\u2019ani are remanded at Chichiri Prison after the court denied them bail, saying they are flight risks.<\/p>\n<p>Makote was arrested by the International Police in Botswana while Mang\u2019ani was arrested at his home after spending months on the run.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to April 9, when the three are expected to enter defence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three Blantyre Water Board (BWB) officials implicated in the K150 million money laundering case have a case to answer, the Blantyre Senior Resident Magistrate Court has ruled.
