Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe of Rumphi District has said \u2018Cashgate\u2019 in both government and non-governmental organisations has become a norm, an issue, he said, is affecting development in the country.<\/p>\n
He was speaking in Rumphi when the Rodger Federer Foundation donated K10.5 million to 30 Community-Based Childhood Centres (CBCC) in the district.<\/p>\n
The foundation belongs to world number one tennis player, Rodger Federer.<\/p>\n
The chief warned against abuse of resources in his area if the help from the foundation is to achieve its intended purpose.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me warn these CBCCs to be very careful with money because Cashgate in Malawi has become part and parcel of life; so, I am telling them not to engage in such practices because they stifle development of the nation.<\/p>\n
\u201cEarly child education has assisted a lot of children; it is inclusive, whereby every child develops physically, mentally and socially thus preparing them for primary school learning,\u201d Chikulamayembe said.<\/p>\n
Each CBCC received K350,000 for pre-school education, care, nutrition and health services, particularly for vulnerable children.<\/p>\n
Oliver Mkandawire, a member of Action Aid General Assembly, main supervisors of the project asked the government to consider caregivers who work on a voluntary basis.<\/p>\n
