{"id":62267,"date":"2018-03-14T10:24:24","date_gmt":"2018-03-14T08:24:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=62267"},"modified":"2018-03-14T10:24:25","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T08:24:25","slug":"mzuzu-city-council-in-need-of-k150-million-after-arson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/03\/14\/mzuzu-city-council-in-need-of-k150-million-after-arson\/","title":{"rendered":"Mzuzu City Council in need of K150 million after arson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mzuzu City Council (MCC) says it needs a minimum of K150 million to recover from the fire that gutted some of their offices last year.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Executive Officer Macloud Kadammanja has complained that work is yet to normalise for the planning department which was the most affected.<\/p>\n<p>He said this on Monday when Member of Parliament (MP) for Mzuzu City Constituency donated a computer and a printer to the department.<\/p>\n<p>On September 23 2017, the council had a rude awakening when a group of angry vendors set some of its offices at the Mzuzu Stadium ablaze in anger, after authorities demolished their shops at Zigwagwa Market.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kadammanja all property ranging from, motorcycles computers and assorted documentation for the planning department was lost in the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Their initial assessment established that K800 million worth of property was damaged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are still bruised from the incident because we haven\u2019t recovered fully, we just ensured to put in place few mechanisms to ensure that people are still being served,\u201d Kadammanja said.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that among the short-term remedies, they have turned the Mayor\u2019s official residence into an office for the planning department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it is still problematic because none of the items was rescued, which means we lost all the information, especially on property owned by the residents within the city.
