He also hand-picked two assistants at the Flames.

But NFCC spoke against the move, questioning the Belgian’s powers in doing so as he was only a Fam employee.

The coaches’ body also said it was not consulted on the matter, as a meeting which was supposed to tackle the issue did not take place.

In a bid to take a common stand on the development, NFCC’s executive committee met on Saturday in Lilongwe and agreed to write Fam, expressing their misgivings on RVG’s conduct.

Both NFCC Chairman, Stewart Mbolembole, and his General Secretary, Dave Mpima, confirmed the development but declined to disclose the meeting’s resolutions.

“We agreed to keep our mouths shut until we get a response from Fam. We do not want to be seen as if we are fighting in the media. We should be delivering our letter to Fam on Monday [today] or Tuesday [tomorrow],” Mbolembole said.

However, a source who attended the meeting said the coaches are not pleased with Fam’s relationship with RVG, who seems to have been given too much powers.

The source said the meeting expressed concern that the national team coach’s actions will result in a bad working relationship with local coaches.

“It was observed that the appointment of technical panels should be left to Fam’s Technical and Youth sub-committee and not to RVG. This was the main bone of contention during the meeting,” the source said.

Fam President, Walter Nyamilandu, had earlier insisted that there was nothing improper in giving RVG powers to appoint coaches for all national teams.

“He is responsible for all national teams. So, we will not impose on him who to work with. We are also trying to build the capacity of local coaches through the appointments so that they should take over once RVG goes back home,” Nyamilandu said.

One of the major concerns expressed after news of the appointments was made public was that some of the appointees are under-qualified, a move which goes against Club Licensing System requirements which Fam enforces on all Super League clubs.

Malawi national football team Head Coach Ronny van Geneugden’s (RVG) recent appointment of coaches for both the senior and junior national teams has set Football Association of Malawi (Fam) and its affiliate, National Football Coaches Committee (NFCC), on a collision course.
