Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has announced that it has raised over K70 million to go towards preparations for its convention, slated for next month.<\/p>\n
MCP president, Lazarus Chakwera, said this on Saturday, during a fundraising dinner and dance in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Chakwera said the amount is a milestone for an opposition party and speaks volumes of people\u2019s frustrations with the Democratic Progressive Party-led government.<\/p>\n
\u201cMalawians are tired of four years of empty promises. Malawians are tired of failing to conduct profitable businesses in their own country. Malawians are tired of failing to send their children to school. Malawians are tired of failing to acquire quality health services and that is why, though we are in opposition, people are willing to support its [MCP\u2019s] cause,\u201d Chakwera said.<\/p>\n
Chakwera urged members of the party and well-wishers to support the convention.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo contribution is too small. We are saying nothing for us without us. Nobody will give us our dignity; we must get it. Nobody will give us our future, we must get it and will get it together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chairperson of dinner and dance organising committee, Abida Mia, said the committee received overwhelming support from people.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople have made contributions and will continue to contribute towards the event. This is all because people have faith in Dr Lazarus Chakwera and his leadership,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
