Malawi Congress Party president, Lazarus Chakwera, has urged Malawians to desist from over-relying on donations.<\/p>\n
Chakwera said this in a sermon he delivered at Kanjedza Assemblies of God Church in Blantyre on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Chakwera said he thought it wise that, while he was in Blantyre on party business, he should congregate at the church.<\/p>\n
Chakwera quoted Mathew 21, which talks of servants who were given different talents but one did not do anything productive with his talent.<\/p>\n
On this note, he said God has given Malawi everything needed\u2014 including water, land and peace\u2014 for its citizens to be productive but argued that the country is wasting its resources by opting for begging.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou see, out of many scriptures, I quoted Mathew 21, which talks of servants who were all given different talents to utilise. God has given Malawi everything for us to use to develop ourselves but we are not doing enough with all that. All we are doing is begging. Now, if a child cannot even crawl at 20 years, there is a problem,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kanjedza Assemblies of God Revered, Charles Makata, concurred with Chakwera, saying overreliance on donors is stifling Malawi\u2019s economic development.<\/p>\n
\u201cDr Chakwera is my father, so I am excited that he came. I agree with what he said in his sermon because a begging country cannot develop. A begging country does not have dignity and it is high time we, as a country, stopped depending on begging,\u201d Makata said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
