Renowned cyclist, Stewart Kambewa, has organised a 20-kilometre cycling race scheduled for March 10, 2018 in Chikwawa District.<\/p>\n
Kambewa said all was set for the event and urged all interested cyclists to join the race.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe forthcoming cycle will see me cycling for 20 kilometres from Chikwawa uphill non-stop while standing, from Thabwa roadblock to Milare roadblock.<\/p>\n
I will cycle without a saddle on the bike,\u201d Kambewa said. He said the whole ride will be filmed, produced on a DVD and auctioned for a good cause to be announced later.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am expecting people to join me, jog and cycle from Kamuzu View and finish off the remaining five kilometers together. Their support will be greatly appreciated,\u201d he said. He called on individuals and companies to support the sport by introducing cycling competitions.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Malawi, the sport is not supported when compared to other sports disciplines.<\/p>\n
The country has good cyclists, who are hungry to deliver but lack of competition affects them. As a result, the sport is failing to grow,\u201d Kambewa said<\/p>\n
Kambewa started cycling in March 2016, and in that year, he cycled the full length of Malawi in eight days\u2014from October 1 to 8 during the Clean Water Cycle 999 initiative, which was organised to help provide clean and safe water to nine districts across the country.<\/p>\n
WaterAid Malawi supported the initiative. He, in 2017, cycled 663 kilometres in five days, from Senga-Bay in Salima District to Blantyre via Lilongwe, Khwekhwerere in Dedza District, Monkey-Bay, Mangochi District, Namwera, Ntaja in Machinga District and Zomba City.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
