{"id":61961,"date":"2018-03-09T09:14:59","date_gmt":"2018-03-09T07:14:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=61961"},"modified":"2018-03-09T09:15:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-09T07:15:00","slug":"kia-to-send-1-child-to-russia-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/03\/09\/kia-to-send-1-child-to-russia-world-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Kia to send 1 child to Russia World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One Malawian child stands a chance to be selected among Official Match Ball Carriers (OMBC) for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.<\/p>\n<p>The World Cup\u2019s sponsors, Kia Motors (of HTD Limited), will select the child in Malawi through a series of trials involving international secondary schools.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released yesterday, HTD says Kia will invite children from 24 countries to serve as OMBCs for the World Cup, which kicks off on June 14.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMalawi was chosen as one of these countries. As it has done in previous years, Kia Motors (of HTD Limited) sends out calls for young football fans to participate as OMBCs during the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYoung footballers, between the ages of 10 and 14, from various selected international schools in Malawi have been chosen to participate. The concept of this competition is a football skills\u2019 competition. The preliminary round will comprise two selection days held at international schools in two major cities in Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe preliminary round will consist of 100 children from each city, for each selection day. Each of these two events will produce top 10 talented children who will be invited to attend a national finals event to identify Malawi\u2019s most skilled child to be the OMBC,\u201d the statement adds.<\/p>\n<p>The lucky child will travel to Russia alongside a guardian.<\/p>\n<p>Fifa grassroots coaches, led by former Azam Tigers coach, Patrick Kulemeka, will conduct the trials.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One Malawian child stands a chance to be selected among Official Match Ball Carriers (OMBC) for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.
