Answer Private Academy, situated in Dowa District, has invested K20 million in the construction of a football pitch at the school\u2019s premises.<\/p>\n
The natural grass pitch was officially launched on Monday as capital city giants, Civil Sporting Club and Silver Strikers, drew 0-0 in a friendly.<\/p>\n
It is one of best playing surfaces in the country with natural grass like that of Bingu National Stadium.<\/p>\n
Phase one of the project, which lasted five years, included planting the grass using locally available human resources.<\/p>\n
The academy\u2019s Managing Director, David Daimon, said he plans to turn the facility into a mini-stadium in future.<\/p>\n
Daimon said the second phase of the project will include the construction of netball, volleyball basketball courts, dressing rooms and a perimeter fence.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do not have a time-frame for the project because we are doing things at our own pace. We take step by step, but in the near future, we will have a fully fledged academy,\u201d Daimon said.<\/p>\n
Football Association of Malawi Executive Committee member, Rashid Ntelera, hailed the owner of the school for the project, saying it was worth emulating.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has brilliant ideas which need to be supported. We need to have more people with such ideas to develop the game at all levels,\u201d Ntelera said.<\/p>\n
With a makeshift fence, the Lilongwe derby grossed K1.3 million in gate revenue at the new facility.<\/p>\n
Giants Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers do not have a training pitch despite getting a lot of money from gate revenue.<\/p>\n
