{"id":61847,"date":"2018-03-07T09:13:26","date_gmt":"2018-03-07T07:13:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=61847"},"modified":"2018-03-07T09:13:26","modified_gmt":"2018-03-07T07:13:26","slug":"hope-chisamanga-speaks-out-on-basketball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/03\/07\/hope-chisamanga-speaks-out-on-basketball\/","title":{"rendered":"Hope Chisamanga speaks out on basketball"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Renowned basketball player-cum-coach, Hope Chisamanga, has said the revival of the sport should begin with its re-introduction in schools.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Chisamanga received Bob Kandulu Trophy\u2014 which is named after legendary basketball coach\u2014in recognition of his contribution to basketball development.<\/p>\n<p>The Magang\u2019a Basketball Club founding member admitted that basketball authorities had, until 2016, struggled to set up structures for the sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the early 2000 to 2009, basketball was on the right track but, eventually, it slowed down. During that time, we had quite a considerable number of schools that were playing basketball. But, since 2015, there has been a revival,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Chisamanga said lack of infrastructure was hindering the progress of basketball, especially in rural areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only challenge in rural areas is that they don\u2019t have infrastructure. Basketball is quite different from football and netball, where you can use a standard pitch and improvise goal-posts. In basketball, you need rings, bolts and cemented courts.
