Silver Strikers have heaped praise on some of their new recruits after a solid performance in the 2-0 victory over Zambian second-tier side Chipata City Council in a friendly at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.<\/p>\n
It was Silver\u2019s fourth strength-testing match in pre-season and the Central Bankers remain undefeated, having won three games and drawn once.<\/p>\n
Team Manager, Francis Songo, said he was impressed with the new players for adapting quickly to the team\u2019s style of play.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is really amazing that the new players are playing well despite being in a new environment. They have confidence, which is giving us hope that, if we continue playing like that, we will do well in the new season,\u201d Songo said.<\/p>\n
With the Saturday result, Silver have beaten Chipata twice after a 1-0 win some two weeks ago.<\/p>\n
The Bankers forced a barren draw against Zambian MTN Super League side, Nkhwazi FC, in Chipata two weeks ago in one of the four pre-season games they have played so far.<\/p>\n
In one local match, Silver also triumphed 3-2 over newly-promoted TNM Super League side TN Stars.<\/p>\n
However, Songo pleaded with his team\u2019s supporters to avoid giving the new recruits too much pressure before the season starts.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of the new players will get even better with time. Last season, we struggled towards the end because some of our players lost form but it will be a different story this season as we are assembling a great team,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Silver have been featuring several new players such as Mphatso Philimon, Jack Chiona, Zikani Kasambara, Shelton Madimba Banda, Lazarus Nyemera and Prince Phiri.<\/p>\n
The team\u2019s former midfielder, Ulanda Kalua, said the performance of the new players is inspiring hope ahead of the new season.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are doing really well at the moment. But my advice to them is that they should expect tough competition for places because Silver have so many talented players,\u201d Kalua said.<\/p>\n
Last season, Silver won the Airtel Top 8 Cup after beating Be Forward Wanderers 10-9 on post-match penalties at Bingu National Stadium.<\/p>\n
