The body of Necton Mhura, Malawi\u2019s permanent representative to the United Nations, arrived in the country Tuesday through Chileka International Airport in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Mhura died on Monday last week in the United States (US).<\/p>\n
Mhura\u2019s body was taken straight to College of Medicine Mortuary in Blantyre, before heading to its final destination, Zomba, where burial will take place tomorrow.<\/p>\n
Government officials, Blantyre City Council Mayor Wild Ndipo and Democratic Progressive Party supporters lined up to welcome the body of a son who served Malawi well.<\/p>\n
Family member, Tawanda Tambula, said the family has lost a pillar.<\/p>\n
Tambula said Mhura was more than a father to the entire family, as he used to provide both financial and moral support.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have lost a pillar in our family. He was paying school fees for a lot of people in colleges and secondary schools and we will miss that. We cannot even begin to explain how we will miss him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
A statement released earlier by the Office of the President and Cabinet indicates that the burial will be at St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery in Zomba City.<\/p>\n
Mhura has, since 2015, served in many diplomatic missions including the US, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Bahamas and Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n
He also served as the dean of the Faculty of Law at Chancellor College, University of Malawi, between 2004 and 2007.<\/p>\n
He also worked as a research fellow at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom from 1985 to 1988.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
