The steering committee of gendaball has engaged schools to promote the new sport, which Ethiopia-based Malawian diplomat Francis Mwalabu invented.<\/p>\n
Gendaball is played using a soft ball\u2014slightly bigger than a cricket ball\u2014 which is thrown onto a target board comprising 16 holes of varying sizes and values.<\/p>\n
One of gendaball instructors, Hamilton Kadyeramwana, introduced the sport to Blantyre Institute of Management (BIM) students on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn our quest to promote the sport, we are reaching out to schools. We are targeting primary and secondary schools and institutions of higher learning. We feel that we will be able to get more people to take up the sport,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kadyeramwana said they were excited with how BIM students embraced the sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cDespite the rains, we are happy with the turn up. Most students have expressed interest in picking up the sport,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
BIM student, Kelvin Idana, said the sport can become popular if promoted.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe beauty of this is that it was created by not just an African but a Malawian. We need to embrace this sport,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Another student, Jessica Chiseko, urged locals to take up the sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you are playing, you realise how tough it is,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
