Malawi national netball team legend, Mary Waya, has said she hopes to use her connections in England to market more Malawian netballers to top leagues across the world.<\/p>\n
Waya left for England on Saturday to start a new lease of life at Hertfordshire Mavericks Netball Team as Shooters\u2019 Coach.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will try to use the network, which I will build, to market our players. I have been involved in deals for two players already. To promote our netball, it would be a plus to have Malawian players competing in top leagues because it would help us bridge the gap [in talent],\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Waya facilitated the transfer of goal-shooter Joyce Mvula from Blue Eagles Sisters to Manchester Thunder, then all-rounder Lauren Ngwira\u2019s move to another English Super League side, Northumbria, Ngwira is yet to complete the transfer.<\/p>\n
The former Malawi coach added that she would recommend local players to South African league teams.<\/p>\n
Waya said she was excited to return to Mavericks where she had a stint during the British Fast5 Series late last year.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I went to England to undergo child protection training, I also had a privilege to coach Mavericks during the British Fast5 as shooters\u2019 trainer. Mavericks were so happy with my contribution that they asked me to undergo interviews. When I returned home, I got an offer from them, saying they were satisfied with how I performed, so they wanted me back,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Waya said she had structures to ensure that her Blantyre-based Mary Waya Netball Academy continues to operate in her absence.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is an institution and we have structures. I have some players who I groomed to handle coaching clinics in my absence,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
