Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) over the weekend donated a consignment of books worth over K1.5 million to Chitenje Community Day Secondary School in Kasungu District.<\/p>\n
PIL General Manager, Enwell Kadango, emphasised that Malawi\u2019s efforts to realise economic development have over the years been frustrated by high levels of ignorance within the citizenry, which he said can be contained if the education system is strengthened.<\/p>\n
He then called on the corporate sector to invest more in education system. \u201cEducation is the backbone of the country\u2019s sustainable development and educated people are an asset to our country. In today\u2019s world, human capital is considered the most important resource and quality education plays an important role in the success of any person,\u201d Kadango said.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cWe need to increase provision of academic resources to support and facilitate easy and effective learning process, this is why we donated the books to Chitenje CDSS\u201d.<\/p>\n
Assani Balakia, who received the donation on behalf of the Central Eastern Division Manager, lauded PIL for the gesture emphasising that many of the schools in the division lack books and conducive infrastructure.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe division has 138 secondary schools, out of that, 120 are community day secondary schools which are in a very bad shape. There is shortage of books, desks and teachers.
