{"id":60961,"date":"2018-02-19T07:50:41","date_gmt":"2018-02-19T05:50:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=60961"},"modified":"2018-02-19T07:50:41","modified_gmt":"2018-02-19T05:50:41","slug":"dapp-pilots-shoe-design-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/02\/19\/dapp-pilots-shoe-design-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Dapp pilots shoe design training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Development Aid from People to People (Dapp) has introduced a shoe making course at its Mikolongwe College targeting youths in selected districts in the Southern Region.<\/p>\n<p>This comes at a time when Dapp discovered that the business of making shoes could help Malawi gain more foreign exchange through shoe exports.<\/p>\n<p>Mikolongwe College Deputy Principal, Zacheria Viano, said Dapp has partnered Technical Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education Authority and Sympany based in the Netherlands for the programme to run for three years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is just a pilot project and after three years, we will be able to make it a national programme through other Dapp colleges,\u201d Viano said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the organisation decided to introduce the course after observing that there is lack of locally-made shoes on the market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe students are being trained as shoe producers and upon completion, we will also provide them with equipment,\u201d Viano said.<\/p>\n<p>He said, currently, they have enrolled 15 students at the campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the South, we have targeted youths from Balaka, Mulanje, Thyolo and Machinga.
