Malawi national football team Head Coach, Ronny van Geneugden, has said he is impressed with local players\u2019 levels of fitness after two weeks of pre-camp training at Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Friday as the camping came to an end, Geneugden said it was pleasing that the sessions were without any injuries and all players responded well.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a lot of improvement in the general performance of all the players. Everybody was fit and raring to go. I cannot complain,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Belgian coach attributed the players\u2019 impressive fitness levels to the physical fitness sessions which were held in Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Blantyre late last month.<\/p>\n
Geneugden said the players would be recalled for another two-week camp training session from March 5 ahead of the Uganda friendly match 22 days later.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince the Uganda match is on a Fifa calendar date, I expect the foreign players from March 19. We need to have a full strength team for the match,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Flames have players plying their trade in South Africa, Mozambique and Zambia.<\/p>\n
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, said resources are available for the match as it was budgeted for.<\/p>\n
Gunda said Fam values the importance of such friendly matches as they help the Flames to remain in shape.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe settled for the match with our Ugandan counterparts during the annual Caf [Confederation of African Football] congress held in Morocco early this month. We believe Uganda will give us a good test in Kampala,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The match will be the first for the Flames this year after a 1-1 draw against Lesotho in November last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
