{"id":6082,"date":"2015-07-16T09:25:44","date_gmt":"2015-07-16T09:25:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=6082"},"modified":"2015-07-16T09:25:44","modified_gmt":"2015-07-16T09:25:44","slug":"archbishop-desmond-tutu-stays-second-night-in-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/07\/16\/archbishop-desmond-tutu-stays-second-night-in-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Archbishop Desmond Tutu stays second night in hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">South Africa&#8217;s Archbishop Desmond Tutu has spent a second night in hospital for treatment of a &#8220;persistent infection&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Archbishop Tutu thanked &#8220;everyone who had sent love and prayers&#8221; since his admission to hospital in Cape Town, his daughter Reverend Mpho Tutu said.<\/p>\n<p>The family hopes he will be able to return home &#8220;in a day or two&#8221;, his daughter said in an <a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tutu.org.za\/archbishop-tutu-admitted-to-hospital\">earlier statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He retired from public life in 2011 but continues to travel widely.<\/p>\n<p>The 83-year-old Nobel peace laureate cancelled a planned trip to Rome in December following another infection.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/live\/world-africa-33489583\">BBC Africa Live: News updates<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The admission is not thought to be linked to Archbishop Tutu&#8217;s treatment for prostate cancer, which has afflicted him for more than a decade.<\/p>\n<p>His hospitalization comes a few days after he renewed his wedding vows to his wife Leah Tutu to mark their 60th wedding anniversary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa&#8217;s Archbishop Desmond Tutu has spent a second night in hospital for treatment of a &#8220;persistent infection&#8221;.
