{"id":60660,"date":"2018-02-13T11:42:08","date_gmt":"2018-02-13T09:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=60660"},"modified":"2018-02-13T11:42:08","modified_gmt":"2018-02-13T09:42:08","slug":"heavy-rains-displace-68-households-in-phalombe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/02\/13\/heavy-rains-displace-68-households-in-phalombe\/","title":{"rendered":"Heavy rains displace 68 households in Phalombe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heavy rains that poured on Friday last week have affected 290 families, leaving 68 others homeless.<\/p>\n<p>Phalombe District Commissioner, Gossam Mafuta, told <em>The Daily Times <\/em>yesterday that the situation has disrupted classes at Phaloni Primary School, where the displaced families have sought refuge.<\/p>\n<p>Mafuta said the rains affected about nine villages and injured one elderly person who is recovering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have now sent a medical team to ensure good health and safety of the victims because of cholera which is spreading fast and the team is on the ground. We have notified the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) and we are waiting for assistance,\u201d Mafuta said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Dodma is in the process of making arrangements to start dispatching relief items.<\/p>\n<p>Dodma spokesperson, Chipiliro Khamula, said the department received the report of the floods on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe department is aware of the situation and plans to intervene are at an advanced stage.
