One of the country\u2019s commercial banks, FDH, has committed K4.8 million towards this year\u2019s Blantyre City Mayor\u2019s Trophy.<\/p>\n
The donation was all Blantyre City Council needed to have the competition started over the weekend after delays due to funding hiccups.<\/p>\n
According to council authorities, the competition required close to K20 million to commence.<\/p>\n
The competition has, of late, enjoyed support from companies and organisations which enabled organisers to start the games which involve primary schools around the city.<\/p>\n
FDH Bank Head of Government and International Organisations, Alfred Nhlema, said the support is in line with the bank\u2019s commitment to youth development.<\/p>\n
Nhlema said the bank realized that there was a financial need that required an intervention; hence the donation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe saw it fit to partner Blantyre City Council in this initiative. We believe in youths development and such initiatives are ideal,\u201d Nhlema said.<\/p>\n
Blantyre City Counc Deputy Mayor, David Makwinja, commended the bank for the gesture, saying the funds would help in addressing the competition\u2019s funding gaps.<\/p>\n
