Malawi under-20 national netball team might be revived so as to take part in Region Five Games set for Botswana in December, Netball Association of Malawi (Nam)<\/p>\n
General Secretary, Carol Bapu, has confirmed.<\/p>\n
The junior Queens missed the 2016 edition of the competition after Nam failed to fulfil requirements, including meeting the deadline for accreditation of players for the bi-annual competition.<\/p>\n
Bapu said they had contacted Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) to consider including the junior Queens on the line up of teams earmarked for the Region Five Games, which were previously known as Zone VI Youth Games.<\/p>\n
\u201cChances are high that we will take part in the competition.<\/p>\n
Behind the scenes, we are talking to Sports Council to make sure that we fulfil all the requirements,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Bapu underscored the importance of the junior Queens, saying participation in Region Five Games would help the country to identify talent for the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe players we are celebrating came through youth structures. So, we need to keep our developmental structures intact so as to remain a side to reckon with,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The junior Queens have produced current senior team players such as Joyce Mvula and Mwawi Kumwenda.<\/p>\n
Bapu also said Nam was finalising the process of naming a technical panel for the under-20 side. \u201cWe will let the nation know once we finalise it. We know the importance of having a technical panel because they need to help us finalise birth certificates issues which are crucial at this level,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
MNCS Administration Manager, Henry Mereka, said they were yet to disclose sport codes that will represent Malawi at Region Five Games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
