Be Forward Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, has said they have cancelled a friendly they were supposed to have with a Zambian team, before facing As Vita of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the first-leg of the Caf Champions League preliminary round next week.<\/p>\n
Butao on Sunday said Wanderers will travel straight to Kinshasa on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we are to proceed with the friendly match, then it would be on our way back from the DRC. But, meanwhile, there are no such plans.<\/p>\n
\u201cConcentration is now on the Vita game. We will go through Ethiopia before proceeding to DRC where we are expected to arrive Friday. We believe that we have had good preparations and we are ready to play,\u201d Butao said.<\/p>\n
Last week, Wanderers wanted to withdraw from the continental showpiece due to lack of funds.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Wanderers beat Nyasa Bullets 2-0 during a friendly match at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
Butao described the win as another morale booster to his side.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen it comes to Bullets and Wanderers, there is nothing like a friendly; it is serious business. Therefore, our coaches used the opportunity to identify some weak areas that can be worked on,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Wanderers Board of Trustees\u2019 Chairperson, Rashid Gaffar, has promised to buy the team four buses to ease transportation problems.<\/p>\n
Gaffar made the promise on Sunday when he was addressing supporters who gathered at the club house to elect Supporters\u2019 Committee members.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are already consulting suppliers. One [bus] will be used by the team and at times, when I am happy, I will let them all be on the road, carrying players and supporters on their way to our match venues.
