Former chief justice, Anastasia Msosa, has said increased cases of defilement in the country are worrisome.<\/p>\n
She, therefore, urged women to be vigilant in protecting the girl-child.<\/p>\n
Msosa, who has been chosen goodwill ambassador for SOS Children\u2019s Villages Malawi, said this on Tuesday during a familiarisation tour of SOS Children\u2019s Village in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Msosa said women should ensure that their children, especially girls, are closely watched and left with people who can be trusted.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is unfortunate that, as a country, we are having increased cases of defilement. Recently, there was a story of a father who defiled a two-year-old, which shows how serious the situation is.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, the good thing is that people are able to bring such ills to light unlike in the past. The courts have also been giving stiffer penalties but, still, mothers should be in the forefront to put their girl child under proper care,\u201d Msosa said.<\/p>\n
National Director of SOS Children\u2019s Villages Malawi, Smart Namagonya, said the organisation has appointed Msosa as its goodwill ambassador because of her integrity and the experience she has on the laws of Malawi.<\/p>\n
\u201cMsosa understands the laws of Malawi. Therefore, she can help us with legal advice so that our work should not contravene the laws of Malawi. She is somebody you can trust in terms of lobbying for funds and promoting the good image of the organisation,\u201d Namagonya said.<\/p>\n
