Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) spokesperson, Frank Chibisa, has said some male boxers are failing to realise their full potential because of indiscipline.<\/p>\n
Chibisa said most male boxers fail to take care of themselves\u2014a thing that compromises their performance in international bouts.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, some of the defeats were questionable but the conduct of most boxers left a lot to be desired. Some were misbehaving off the ring and this contributed to their downfall,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chibisa said the board wants to hold a seminar in April to educat e managers, matchmakers and promoters on how to guide boxers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I talk about indiscipline, it is not only about immoral behaviour. Indiscipline, in this case, can mean their [the boxers\u2019] diet and how they train. This is the reason we are organising a seminar to sensitise managers and other stakeholders on how to manage their boxers so that they should behave accordingly by following the right habits,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, well-known boxer, Wilson Masamba, said some male boxers do not train regularly due to limited opportunities for fights.<\/p>\n
\u201cA boxer can train religiously if he is given enough bouts. Some boxers do not follow a diet or training schedule regularly because they don\u2019t have motivation to do it. It is fights that drive boxers to the gym and follow a proper diet,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Recently, MPBCB hailed female boxers, including African Boxing Union super lightweight champion, Anisha Bashir, for lifting Malawi\u2019s flag high.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
