Karonga United Chairperson, Alufeyo Chipanga, has said his team is looking for K55 million to see them through to the end of the 2018 TNM Super League season.<\/p>\n
Karonga was promoted from the Simama Premier Premier Division after emerging champions last year, alongside TN Stars and Nchalo United from the Central and Southern regions, respectively.<\/p>\n
However, unlike TN and Nchalo, Karonga survive on well-wishers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn order to give ourselves enough time for planning, we have drawn the budget and we are conducting some fundraising activities for proper management of the team. Other individuals have also intervened by giving us things such as boots and match balls,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeanwhile, the coach (Christopher Nyambose) has arrived in Karonga to start assembling the team which is now recruiting new players. Otherwise, we want to assemble a team that would stand the heat in the league this time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Nchalo Chairperson, Peter Chiipanthenga, has challenged that they have enough resources to see the team through.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe planned for [participation in] the Super League last year. The hiring of Mabvuto Lungu [as coach] was for him to take us into the elite league. So, we are not worried much about resources,\u201d he said while refusing to disclose their budget.<\/p>\n
TN Club Manager, Khumbo Chipeta, said, despite having stable sponsorship, the team will also conduct fundraising activities such as dinner and dance in Kasungu on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeanwhile, companies and individuals have come forward to support the team. We are yet to strike deals,\u201d Chipeta said.<\/p>\n
Lack of sponsorship affects teams in the Super League. Last season\u2019s relegated sides, Blantyre United, Chitipa United and Premier Bet Wizards, were all unsponsored.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
