{"id":59584,"date":"2018-01-25T07:39:04","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T05:39:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=59584"},"modified":"2018-01-25T07:39:04","modified_gmt":"2018-01-25T05:39:04","slug":"females-boxing-making-strides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/01\/25\/females-boxing-making-strides\/","title":{"rendered":"Females\u2019 boxing making strides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) has called for more support towards females\u2019 boxing to encourage more ladies to take up the sport.<\/p>\n<p>MPBCB spokesperson, Frank Chibisa, said the country has made strides in as far as females\u2019 boxing is concerned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we are to look at achievements, you will see that female boxers have done well compared to men. It is not that we are disrespecting men; rather, we are acknowledging the achievements of female boxers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Chibisa cited Anisha Bashir as one of the boxers who have defied all odds after winning the African Boxing Union super lightweight title when she stopped Kenyan Consolata Masunga on December 2 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat belt should be treasured because it has taken a lot of years for a Malawian boxer to get one. This is why we are calling for more support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Chibisa also hailed Ruth Chisale and Ellen Simwaka for their impressive showings last year. Chisale defeated Ornella Domini in Geneva, Switzerland, whereas Simwaka has impressed in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Simwaka said they need support from the corporate world if they are to do well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever is happening is because stables such as No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions, Romio Boxing Academy and Ngumi Boxing Stable are pumping in personal resources to promote females\u2019 boxing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) has called for more support towards females\u2019 boxing to encourage more ladies to take up the sport.
