Masters Security Services FC will not afford to play international friendly matches ahead of their Confederation of African (Caf) Confederation Cup assignments, General Secretary, Zachariah Nyirenda, has said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are talking about resources for the friendlies, and not competitive games. Meanwhile, we are confident in the way our players are performing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe friendly game we played against Be Forward Wanderers gave us a good picture of our team, and our coaches are working on the weaknesses they noted on the day [on Saturday]. One obvious weakness is that we concede unnecessary goals. Otherwise, everything is set,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Lilongwe team, which will play against Petro de Luanda from Angola in the Confederation Cup on the weekend of February 9, lost 4-0 to Wanderers at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
Nyirenda further said they were looking for more local friendlies.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo one is giving us a chance. Some think we cannot manage to travel and play away games, but we are banking on assurance from our sponsor that resources are available. Now our concentration is ground work,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Masters\u2019 sponsor and Patron, Alfred Gangata, also confirmed that the team has enough resources to take the team to Angola and other places for the next match.<\/p>\n
He said the team may leave for Angola on February 7.<\/p>\n
Masters will represent Malawi in the continental competition alongside Be Forward Wanderers, who have since launched an initiative called \u201cCaf Imenyedwe\u201d to help raise funds for their assignments.<\/p>\n
Wanderers will play AS Vita of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Caf Champions League on the same day.<\/p>\n
Last week, the Nomads lost 0-1 to Mozambican side UD Songo in their first international friendly match.<\/p>\n
