First Lady Gertrude Mutharika on Saturday commended the workforce at Balaka District Hospital for helping patients with professionalism despite various resource challenges the health facility is facing.<\/p>\n
During the visit to the facility, Mutharika donated assorted items including bathing basins, buckets, blankets and nappies.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to thank the District Health Officer and her team for a commendable job they are doing. During the tour, I have heard about a lot of challenges which the hospital is going through but it is exciting that the workers are still doing their job with passion. Wherever I have toured the patients were full of praise for the hospital staff, I just say congratulations to all workers for the job well done,\u201d Mutharika said.<\/p>\n
She then condoled with the families of football supporters who were killed on their way to a match between Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers last month.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the President and I heard about that accident, we were shocked and sad. May God be with the families of those people who were killed in that accident. For those who were injured we wish them a quick recovery,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Balaka District Health Officer Bertha Chikuse cited shortage of linen and space as some of challenges at the health facility.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have unfinished structures. If those structures are completed, we will deal with the problem of congestion at this hospital,\u201d Chikuse said.<\/p>\n
