The Society of Medical Doctors (SMD) has vowed to move in and provide mechanisms to curb the cholera outbreak that continues to wreak havoc in some parts of the country.
\nThe outbreak has affected six districts of the country with Karonga being the worst hit.
\nOther affected districts are Nkhata Bay, Lilongwe, Salima, Kasungu, Dowa.
\nFour people have so far died and at least 265 others had been affected as of yesterday.
\nSMD President, Amos Nyaka, said it is important to help in the fight, in ensuring that the country is cholera-free in the shortest period possible.
\nSpeaking after doctors under the society – Northern Region Chapter, planted 200 trees at Jenda Health Centre in Mzimba South on Monday, Nyaka attributed the rise in the cases to flooding.
\n\u201cWe have to understand as to why the cases are continuing to rise. The simple reason is that we have cut down the trees and floods are the order of the day. And it is the floods that are causing such diarrhoeal infections to spread like that.
\n\u201cSo we will come and see on how best we can assist and curb this once and for all,\u201d he said.
\nOn his part, Mzimba South District Health Officer, Lumbani Munthali, commended the doctors for the gesture.
\nHe further unveiled plans to make the Jenda Heath Centre a rural Hospital, considering the rise in the number of people that live around the facility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
