Masters Security FC, Malawi\u2019s surprise ambassadors in the 2018 Confederation of African Football (Caf) Confederation Cup, have signed eight players and hired Lloyd Nkhwazi from Dwangwa United as interim Technical Director.
\nMasters are leaving no stone unturned as they will travel to Angola next month to play against Petro de Luanda in the preliminary round of the continental competition.
\nMasters\u2019 owner, Alfred Gangata, said they have hired the former Nyasa Big Bullets mentor owing to his experience so as to strengthen the Abbas Makawa-led coaching panel.
\n\u201cWe believe that he will help us achieve our objective in the tournament. We are all aware that he was with Bullets when the People\u2019s Team participated in the Caf Champions League way back in 2015, and he rescued Dwangwa United from relegation in the just-ended season, so we have no doubt that he will boost our technical panel,\u201d Gangata said.
\nLloyd Nkhwazi yesterday confirmed that he was in Lilongwe to help Masters with their Caf assignments.
\n\u201cThey asked me to assist them during the Caf games only. When we finish the games, I will be going back to Dwangwa. I am a coach for Dwangwa,\u201d Nkhwazi said. Dwangwa Team Manager, Davie Mwandira, confirmed receiving a text message from Nkhwazi informing them that he was working with Masters temporarily.
\n\u201cOur coach just sent me a text message that in the, meantime, he will be with Masters Security for the Caf assignments only. I am sure that I will have more information on the development once I meet the GS [General Secretary Samson Zimba],\u201d Mwandira said.
\nMeanwhile, Masters have bolstered their squad by signing goalkeeper Chimwemwe Kumkwawa and midfielder Zeliet Nkhoma from Mzuni FC, alongside Kondwani Lufeyo and Rafik Mussa (from Be Forward Wanderers), Suwedi Limbani, Zondiwe Munthali and Matthews Zaulombo (from Moyale Barracks).
\nMasters General Secretary, Zachariah Nyirenda, while confirming that they have signed new players, yesterday said his office would release, officially, a report on the new recruits on January 31.
\nWanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, yesterday confirmed that Lufeyo was a free agent; hence, at liberty to join another team.
\n\u201cBut Rafik has a running contract with us and we are waiting to hear from them [Masters] if they are interested in signing him,\u201d Butao said.
\nMakawa confirmed that new players have started training with the team at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
\nMasters, who regrouped last Tuesday, will play against Wanderers in Lilongwe on Saturday in a strength testing match.
\nThe Nomads are fine-tuning for the Caf Champions League assignments against AS Vita of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
