{"id":59172,"date":"2018-01-17T08:57:36","date_gmt":"2018-01-17T06:57:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=59172"},"modified":"2018-01-17T09:01:29","modified_gmt":"2018-01-17T07:01:29","slug":"tennis-star-makes-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/01\/17\/tennis-star-makes-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennis star makes it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ramesh Banda has qualified for this year\u2019s Africa Junior Championship after finishing seventh during the CAT\/ITF Southern Africa Junior Championship held in Botswana.<br \/>\nThe under-16 player defeated Armando Sigauque of Mozambique 6-3 6-3 in the second-round, before reaching the quarter-finals after beating Theron Konrad of Namibia 6-0 6-3.<br \/>\nThe Malawian lost in the quarter-finals to a South African top seed in the under-16 category.<br \/>\nBanda\u2019s compatriot, Sekelani Makuluni, was booted out in the first-round after losing to a Mozambican 2-6 2-6.<br \/>\nBanda and Sekelani, together with their Coach Hackson Methiwa, returned home on Sunday despite that the qualifying competition is in progress in Botswana.<br \/>\n\u201cThe competition is on-going in team events. We failed to raise a team because we only had two players.
