Central Region Football Association (CRFA) General Secretary, Bernard Harawa, has described the just-ended Chipiku league season as a mixed bag.
\nHarawa made the remarks after crowning officially TN Stars from Kasungu District as Chipiku Premier Division champions at Msundwe Ground in Lilongwe on Sunday.
\n\u201cWe are happy to conclude the season. Although we had some challenges, it was a wonderful year. The standard of play has really improved and it was not easy to predict games throughout the season,\u201d Harawa said.
\n\u201cReferees also did a good job but we had problems in other districts, and we hope that things will be better next year.\u201d
\nHarawa also urged Stars, who wound up the season with 77 points from 38 games, to strengthen their squad before they start life in the TNM Super League.
\n\u201cThey have a very good team but I think they need some new faces so as to compete with big teams in the country. We want them to compete [and] not be tourists,\u201d he said.
\nStars, who finished the season 10 points clear of second-placed Holy Cross Ambassadors, drew two-all against hosts Msundwe United in the final match of the season.
\nLast week, Stars Coach, Meck Mwase, hinted that he would beef up the squad. Stars have joined in the Super League Karonga United and Nchalo United from Northern and Southern regions, respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
