Nyasa Big Bullets trustee, Malinda Chinyama, has called for a fair and transparent takeover process by Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC) if the team is to avoid another turbulent start to next season.
\n\u201cIt is greed that is spoiling the process. The extra-ordinary general meeting was like a coup or an ambush whereby short-sighted supporters imposed decisions on the team without appreciating the consequences.
\n\u201cYou would not expect supporters to be making strategic decisions. Transferring of the team should be done at a board level. There was need for an independent steering committee to coordinate the process with the board of trustees and the sponsor,\u201d Chinyama said.
\nThe trustees are yet to de-register the team at the Registrar\u2019s General Office to pave way for NMC\u2019s takeover of the club.
\nThe trustees, in whose name the team is registered with the government, feel sidelined in the takeover process, which Chinyama branded as a coup.
\n\u201cWe aren\u2019t against Nyasa Manufacturing Company [takeover], but there is need for an orderly process. We appreciate whatever the company has done but we are looking at the long term. There is need to change the constitution so as to commercialise the team,\u201d he said.
\nBullets Trustees\u2019 Secretary, Jim Kalua, confirmed that they were yet to de-register the team at the Registrar\u2019s Office because the takeover process was not being done in accordance with the agreement.
\n\u201cAll I can say is that we asked them [NMC] to iron out some grey areas before we undertake steps to de-register the trustees\u2019 board. According to the arrangement, we are supposed to sign the agreement for Nyasa for them to fully own the team,\u201d he said.
\nBullets Supporters Chairperson, Stone Mwamadi, said they had the backing of the trustees\u2019 Chairperson, James Busile, on the takeover process.
\n\u201cWe have a letter to that effect. Mind you, the tenure of the trustees expired, and this is why we have been taking charge of the discussions,\u201d he said.
