Former president Joyce Banda wants her son, Roy Kachale, to replace her as People\u2019s Party (PP) president, Uladi Mussa claimed yesterday after he was unceremoniously dismissed from the party on Monday.
\nMussa, who accused the former head of state of orchestrating his firing, was sacked by the party\u2019s National Executive Committee for associating himself with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
\nMussa said the meeting where he was fired was convened to rubberstamp what Banda already planned and it did not come as a surprise to him.
\n\u201cShe once told me that she wanted her son to be the party president but I advised her to just let us appoint him to some party positions in preparation for the presidency,\u201d Mussa said and added that he would announce his next political move in a month\u2019s time.
\nBut PP spokesperson, Noah Chimpeni, dismissed Mussa\u2019s claims saying he was fired for the reasons the party gave and nothing else.
\nChimpeni said Mussa will be announcing the party he is joining this month which he said was enough proof that he had one leg in PP and another elsewhere.
\n\u201cWhat does he mean saying Dr. Joyce Banda is behind his firing? He was the acting president when people like Khumbo Kachale and Mzomera Ngwira were fired from the party. Was it Joyce Banda again? He is just tasting his own medicine,\u201d he said.
\nAnother casualty in PP, Ralph Jooma, who has been removed as party vice president for Eastern Region, challenged the party to just fire him instead of wasting time with a disciplinary hearing.
\n\u201cEven in a family, you do not send your wife to the boys quarters and say, you will be living in the boys quarters but you should be stuck with me and never go anywhere, you are still my wife.
\n\u201cSo, firing me as the vice president indicates that they do not want me in the party. Therefore, they should simply fire me from the party. They should not be stuck with me, they should fire me and that is the most reasonable thing they should have done,\u201d Jooma said.
\nPolitical commentator Mustapha Hussein said for the sake of the party\u2019s future, PP leadership should have compromised and sort out the differences without firing or demoting anybody.
\nHussein said PP needed unity among its members if it is to perform well in the forthcoming tripartite elections.
\nJooma is also accused of working with DPP.
\nJooma, accompanied by some PP lawmakers, went to State House and met President Peter Mutharika last month.
