{"id":58595,"date":"2018-01-05T08:27:12","date_gmt":"2018-01-05T06:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=58595"},"modified":"2018-01-05T08:27:13","modified_gmt":"2018-01-05T06:27:13","slug":"motorists-adamant-on-parking-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/01\/05\/motorists-adamant-on-parking-space\/","title":{"rendered":"Motorists adamant on parking space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a misunderstanding between the police, road traffic officials and minibus operators regarding places where minibus and cab operators should be picking passengers in Lilongwe.<br \/>\nOn Tuesday, police, in conjunction with officials from Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services, started chasing motorists at Shoprite stage following Lilongwe City Council\u2019s order that the place should not be used as a minibus stage.<br \/>\nMinibus Association of Malawi Operations Officer, Heirman Msowoya, argued that, if motorists are to move away from the depot, commuters will be affected because there will not be a convenient place for them to catch transport.<br \/>\n\u201c[Directorate of] Road Traffic [and Safety Services] officials and the Lilongwe City Council want the motorists to vacate the premises but the letter we got indicates that our minibuses should just be dropping people there. But if we are to do that, many people who work within these premises are going to have nowhere to board buses. Their argument is that the buses cause congestion so we just want to control the traffic as opposed to moving to another place,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nLilongwe City Mayor, Desmond Bikoko, recently said the council would do all it can to enforce the by-laws.<br \/>\nBikoko said the move would bring sanity in the city of Lilongwe adding that the council is just enforcing by-laws that were already there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a misunderstanding between the police, road traffic officials and minibus operators regarding places where minibus and cab operators should be picking passengers in Lilongwe.
