The long-awaited Football Players Association of Malawi (Fpam) has finally been registered as a company.
\nThe mandate of the association, which was registered with the government on December 12 2017, is to take care of footballers\u2019 welfare.
\nFootball Association of Malawi President Walter Nyamilandu, his Super League of Malawi (Sulom) counterpart, Innocent Botoman and Malawi National Council of Sports Executive Secretary George Jana are the directors of the association.
\nAccording to a 23-page document, which Fpam has released, the association would accommodate active and retired footballers.
\nThe document states that current players, who have been duly registered with Sulom, would become members upon signing contracts with their respective clubs.
\n\u201cAll current members will pay [an] annual subscription [fee] through their registered teams, while ex-football players will pay directly to Fpam. The membership fee shall be subject to review at an annual general meeting [AGM] of Fpam,\u201d the statement reads.
\nAmong the benefits, members would be attending AGMs, accessing medical insurance, scholarships and financial literacy [training].
\nThe document adds that Fpam shall be funded through membership subscription fees and a share of gate collections from games involving teams that are affiliated to Sulom.
\nFpam Chairperson, Alfred Lungu, said he cannot comment on the association as they would hold a press briefing at Mpira House in Blantyre tomorrow.
\nThe association\u2019s stakeholder service providers are Nico Insurance, Goodwill Funeral Services, Medical Aid Society of Malawi, Old Mutual Malawi Limited and Modern Education and Training Institute.
