Rising boxer Ruth Chisale\u2019s quest for a World Boxing Council (WBC) International lightweight title fight ended in a unanimous\u2019 points loss to Lolita Muzeya during an elimination fight in Lusaka, Zambia, on Saturday.
\nThis was the first loss for the 20-year-old Malawian boxer in 13 fights.
\nUnbeaten in her career\u2019s 13 fights, the Zambian (Muzeya) has now cemented her growing reputation as one of the finest female boxers in Southern Africa.
\nPreviously, the Zambian defeated Malawian boxers Agnes Mtimaukanena-Mwando, Eneles Nkhwanti and Anisha Bashir (twice).
\nChisale wanted to become the first local female boxer to vie for the WBC International fight and emulate Anisha Bashir, who recently won an African Boxing Union (ABU) super lightweight title after stopping Kenyan boxer Consolata Masunga.
\nChisale and her Manager Steve Msiska of Ngumi Boxing Stable could not be reached for their comments yesterday.
\nMalawi Professional Boxing Control Board President, Lonzoe Zimba, commenting on Chisale\u2019s fight on WhatsApp, claimed that she was robbed of victory.
\n\u201cOur boxer dominated most rounds, and we are surprised by the outcome. We will discuss with Ruth\u2019s stable to see if there shall be need to officially lodge a complaint. The decision can be reversed if we raise strong points. All in all, Ruth performed well,\u201d said Zimba, who witnessed the bout.
