Sports personalities have given mixed reactions to their assessment of the year 2017.
\nSouth Africa-based star boxer, Isaac Chilemba, described the year as the toughest in his career after being sidelined by an arm injury he suffered in 2016.
\n\u201cIt was unproductive and I encountered a lot of desperation and sadness. I cannot wait to see the back of it. I look forward to 2018 to get my career back on track. I shall be a world champion again,\u201d Chilemba said.
\nFootballer Gabadinho Mhango said he had mixed fortunes in the year in which he struggled to score for club and country, apart from being involved in controversies in South Africa.
\nBut the Bidvest Wits forward said he has no specific target for the new year save for continuing to work hard.
\n\u201cMy only message to the sports fraternity is that \u2018do not drink and drive\u2019,\u201d Mhango said.
\nFootball Association of Malawi President, Walter Nyamilandu, said they year had successes and challenges.
\nNyamilandu listed down the success stories as being the K300 million budgetary support to sports from the government, hiring Flames Coach Ronny van Geneugden and making use of all Fifa calendar dates for friendlies.
