{"id":58260,"date":"2017-12-29T11:46:49","date_gmt":"2017-12-29T09:46:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=58260"},"modified":"2017-12-29T11:46:49","modified_gmt":"2017-12-29T09:46:49","slug":"pensioners-bemoan-late-payment-disparities-in-dues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/12\/29\/pensioners-bemoan-late-payment-disparities-in-dues\/","title":{"rendered":"Pensioners bemoan late payment, disparities in dues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Public Service Pensioners Association (Pusepa) has bemoaned the tendency by the government to delay their [monthly] dues, saying the practice negatively affects their livelihoods.<br \/>\nPusepa President, White Samute, has also decried the wide pension gap between civil servants who retired before 2004.<br \/>\nHe was speaking in Lilongwe when he opened Pusepa\u2019s 2017 annual general meeting and activities marking the association\u2019s 20th anniversary.<br \/>\n\u201cPusepa National Executive Committee members have been learning of challenges pensioners are facing, including those that are not addressed in time. They include wide pension gap, delays by the government to revert back to Malawi Public Service Regulations 1:816 (1) of 1981 and late payment of pensions every month,\u201d Samute said.<br \/>\nHe also said the government\u2019s negligence in supporting activities aimed to promote the welfare and livelihoods of the elderly and the poor is also negatively impacting the larger part of the association\u2019s constituency, which consists of old and frail retirees.<br \/>\nHowever, Samute said the association is identifying means of improving the socio-economic well-being of the members and all pensioners.<br \/>\nHe said they are promoting income generating activities to reduce poverty levels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Public Service Pensioners Association (Pusepa) has bemoaned the tendency by the government to delay their [monthly] dues, saying the practice negatively affects their livelihoods.
