Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company recently recognised farmers that performed well in the just ended tobacco season.
\nThe awards were for exceptional performance in categories of all types of tobacco\u2014Flue-Cured, Virginia and Dark-Fired tobacco.
\nFarmers that did well in the various categories were each awarded five bags of fertiliser, a bicycle, 24 iron sheets and roofing nails.
\nLimbe Leaf awarded farmers who complied with extension services and met standards required by customers.
\n\u201cWe believe this gesture will motivate the farmers to work harder so that they can be rewarded again in future,\u201d Limbe Leaf Managing Director, Don Mac Alpine, said.
\nSpeaking on behalf of the farmers, Chisomo Paizoni thanked Limbe Leaf for the gesture and said the awards would strengthen the relationship between the company and the growers.
\nIn addition, Paizoni said the awards would motivate a lot of growers to meet required standards.
\n\u201cI am among farmer s who have benefitted from the Integrated Production System (IPS),\u201d he said.
\nPrincipal Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Gray Nyandule-Phiri, commended Limbe Leaf for the awards, saying they are an encouragement to the recipients as well as other farmers to always aim for high standards.
