Local pugilist Wilson Masamba earned a controversial draw against Tanzanian Epson \u2018Jovin\u2019 John in a non-title bout which took place at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe on Boxing Day.
\nFans booed when judges announced the result, as the Tanzanian dominated all eight rounds.
\nJohn was a threat and showed great boxing skills, forcing the home fans to change their allegiance to the visitor.
\nFor the better part of the bout, Masamba was second best.
\nHowever, Masamba was floored when the visitor unleashed a powerful punch in the last round, but managed to beat the 10-second count.
\nIn an interview, Masamba admitted that the Tanzanian boxer was a tough customer in the ring.
\n\u201cHe is one of the best boxers I have met. But I showed him that I am also a good boxer and I am happy that the fight ended in a draw,\u201d he said.
\nSpeak ing through an interpreter, John said he was not satisfied with the draw.
\n\u201cI think I dominated the bout and everyone saw it. But, any, way it happens. Next time I will knock him out,\u201d he said.
\nMasamba\u2019s record is 29 victories, 10 losses and one draw whereas John has won seven bouts, drawn thrice and lost twice.
\nIn the main supporting bout, Chikondi Makawa earned a points\u2019 decision victory over Malawi-based Congolese boxer, Regen Champion.
\nGunde Boxing Promotions Director, Jack Gunde, said he was satisfied with the turnout.
