Trouble is brewing in the former ruling People\u2019s Party (PP) as some office-bearers are not interested in any form of political alliance with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), a senior party official revealed yesterday.
\nThe party is apparently meeting people in districts, clarifying on what transpired between President Peter Mutharika and some PP MPs.
\n\u201cOur secretary general [Ibrahim Matola] and other top officials are going to districts to tell our officials [about] what transpired because they are just hearing radio reports that some members went to meet the Head of State to look at the possibility of working together. They would like to basically hear their views,\u201d he said
\nParty spokesperson, Noel Chimpeni, said views from people have started trickling in.
\n\u201cSo far, what is coming out is that our members do not want to hear [talk] of any alliance. What they are interested in is that we should be building our party so that, if there is any talk of [an] alliance with any other party, it should be after next year,\u201d Chimpeni said.
\nChimpeni said the enquiry will also include the issue of divisions that rocked the party in Parliament, especially on the issue of Electoral Reforms [Amendment] Bills.
\nChimpeni added that the party is yet to meet and discuss the issue of divisions that rocked it in Parliament over the reform bills.
\nPP officials and party president, Joyce Banda, distanced themselves from the DPP arrangement, saying the MPs that helped and supported DPP in Parliament \u201cdid that on their own\u201d.
