{"id":58091,"date":"2017-12-26T10:29:14","date_gmt":"2017-12-26T08:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=58091"},"modified":"2017-12-26T10:29:14","modified_gmt":"2017-12-26T08:29:14","slug":"malawi-writers-unions-debate-attracts-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/12\/26\/malawi-writers-unions-debate-attracts-veterans\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawi Writers Union\u2019s debate attracts veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi Writers Union (Mawu) debate on reading and writing, organised with funding from Hivos, attracted veteran writers such as Sam Mpasu, Dyson Gonthi and Alfred Msadala.<br \/>\nThe debate, which took place at Alendo Hotel in Blantyre on Saturday, saw writers making different contributions, with some of them challenging Mawu to embrace technology.<br \/>\nOthers felt Mawu needs to work up from its slumber and do more.<br \/>\nHowever, other writers felt it was the responsibility of every writer to help in building Mawu.<br \/>\nMawu President, Sambalikagwa Mvona, said they came up with the debate after noticing that there was a gap between authors, readers and even the government.<br \/>\n\u201cThe debate was all about hearing views from different people and mapping the way forward. For instance, for a long time authors and politicians have not been friendly,\u201d Mvona said.<br \/>\nHe said it was high time the government and other stakeholders partnered with them in the development of culture and education.<br \/>\n\u201cThrough this debate, we also wanted to hear from writers.
