The Malawi Police Service has promised to intensify security during the festive season.
\nNational Police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, says in a statement released yesterday that this would be done by increasing vehicle and foot patrols in order to reduce cases of crime.
\nKadadzera adds that police have intensified investigations and intelligence through deployment of police officers in civilian clothes.
\n\u201cIn addition, the police have stepped up use of ad hoc road blocks in order to intercept suspects of crime,\u201d reads the statement in part.
\nOn road accidents, Kadadzera says traffic police officers would be on call to ensure that vehicles and motorcycles plying on the roads of Malawi are road worthy and that all the road users observe traffic laws.
\n\u201cPeople driving on the roads must fully be conscious to observe speed limits, seating capacity and traffic regulations. Overloading is strictly not allowed and no motorist should drive under the influence of alcohol. Those found drunk will be arrested forthwith and charged accordingly as the law demands,\u201d the statement reads.
\nPolice also appeals to people to be security conscious and leave all the doors, windows and gates properly closed when leaving their homes.
\nPolice further say no information regarding personal movements should be made public on social media.
\nIn the statement, police also encourages members of the general public to wear life jackets when swimming or sailing on the waters of Malawi, as well as to avoid swimming while intoxicated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
