Businessman Leston Mulli has replaced James Seyani as Mulhako wa Alhomwe Chairperson, pledging to work towards national unity.<\/p>\n
President Peter Mutharika attended the function at Balaka Primary School Ground in Balaka District on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Accepting his new role, Mulli said he would, through the cultural grouping, strive to reach out to people of every district with the message of unity.<\/p>\n
Asked on his plans as he assumes office, Mulli, who, before his appointment, was Mulhako wa Alhomwe trustee, said his major goal is to promote unity in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe plan to reach out to every district with information of unity because we are all Malawians and there shouldn\u2019t be any issue of tribalism whatsoever. We should all work at developing the nation other than dividing people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no place in the world that has developed while the people are divided. We will work with other ethnic groups to achieve social, economic and cultural development,\u201d Mulli said.<\/p>\n
Mutharika said unity among cultural groupings is a catalyst for national development.<\/p>\n
The President was on his way to Blantyre from Lilongwe to fulfill other official engagements, including launching the national tree planting season on Monday and groundbreaking ceremony of a five-star hotel, convention centre, business park and two restaurants.<\/p>\n
